Some people have all the luck!

DYswim, a current owner of a Nikon D200, got the Nikon D300 in Shanghai, China - serial number 7003595, for the price of USD1,900 (equivalent) (or RMB14,000):

Other interesting comments from that thread:

  1. The Nikon D300 was purchased at the new photo market on Luban Road, just south of Jiangguo Lu. Contact number is 021 6305 6380. The package comes with a Nikon Capture NX activation code.
  2. Shot of a bottle taken with the Nikon D300 plus Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D AF lens in RAW mode and converted using Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) 4.3. Here’s how the D300 looks like with the Nikkor 85mm f/1.4D lens mounted on it.
  3. DYswim’s shares short review of the D300 vs D200:
Pros: Very effective 3D AF (autofocus), sharp images out of the camera, ISO 400 and 800 are cleaner, and RAW files are warmer and more saturated than those from D200, feels better and more compact in the hand than the D200, material finish is excellent.
Cons: Shutter release on the D300 sounds noisier than on the D200, the Really Right Stuff (RRS) base plate that fits the D200 doesn’t fit on the D300.
